Illicit Trade in Cultural Goods
back printable version e-mail this

In the countries of the Global South the pilfering of antiquities, art and cult objects, and archeological artefacts is a sad reality. Many of these stolen objects are exported and sold in the art markets of the North. The Berne Declaration actively opposes the theft and the illegal trade in cultural goods from the Third World and has been instrumental in drafting a new Swiss law against these practices that went into effect on June 1st, 2005.
